Adults live only 2–3 days in August or September. Caterpillars primarily feed on oak and beech. Introduced to the wild through the free breeding of caterpillars (Jahann March, 1866). Not considered invasive.

Nocturnal adults are active in May and June, with a second generation in August. Caterpillars feed on the leaves of alder and birch trees.
